Hello DMS parents/guardians, this is Mr. Rogers sending out information regarding our next upcoming middle school dance. The dance is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 17th in the DMS Gym and the cost is $5 for students to attend. The theme of the dance is "Winter Formal" and students must be academically and behaviorally eligible to attend. The DMS dance is a co-curricular event whereas only DMS registered students are allowed to attend. If you child(ren) are not eligible to attend, they will be told on that week. Being that the dance has a theme of "Winter Formal", students are still expected to abide by the DMS dress code. Students are not allowed to wear any type of Lei necklace, hat, or corset flowers. Please know this is not a formal prom; girls are not expected and are discouraged from buying and/or wearing a prom style dress. A nice pants outfit is acceptable. Boys may wear slacks and a nice button-up shirt if they would like. Students are NOT required to dress up for this dance if they do not want to. Parents/guardians please do not spend or feel pressured to spend a great amount of money on a fancy new dress/outfit to be worn one time. Reach out to our office at 683-2368, option #2 if you have questions or need clarification. Very Respectfully, Mr. Rogers

DMS Concert
Dear families of Dillon Middle School Band and Choir students, All the students have been working very hard this semester to expand their skills. They are eager to show you what they have learned. Their concert is Thursday, December 19th at 7 pm. Concerts are a required part of all DMS music classes and are a large portion of the student’s grade. Students will need to arrive at the DMS Library at 6:15 pm wearing their concert appropriate clothes. A concert is a special time for your students to impress you, and their peers, with their skills. As such, it is all important for students to dress up for the occasion. Dressing up includes khaki’s, dress slacks, button up shirts, and dresses that are school appropriate in length. It does not include jeans, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and tee shirts with graphic logos on it. If you have any questions about the concert, the concert report time, or the concert dress expectations please feel free to reach out to me. Email is best. Thank you, Jessica Kidd , DMS Band and Choir Teacher

School safety is a topic that is constantly on my mind. I want you to know that our District Crisis Response Team, a team made up of administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, custodial staff, trustees, and others, is working hard to make sure that your children and school staff members are safe while at school by practicing several drills throughout the year including fire, earthquake and intruder drills. The goal of the Crisis Response Team is for our students, staff, and community emergency personnel to be prepared in case of an emergency. We hope we never have to put our training to use but in the event we do we want to be prepared. Practice helps accomplish that goal and we want to make sure we are doing everything we can to protect our most precious resource. Our staff members do a great job preparing students in the event of a disaster at school. Additionally, staff are trained in various safety features such as first aid, CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) training, intruder training, and bullying and suicide awareness and prevention. We continue to work hard to make sure we are prepared for any emergency. To enhance school safety, Dillon Elementary School District #10 recently participated in an active shooter response training on the afternoon of November 6th, 2024. This training was a collaborative effort between the Dillon Elementary School District, Dillon Police Department, Beaverhead County Sheriff Department, Disaster of Emergency Services, Beaverhead EMT’s, Barrett Hospital, and Jason Grimmis, Director of Crisis and Emergency Management at the University of Montana Western. The training focused on different aspects of an active shooter response from a variety of different perspectives. It focused on providing staff and law enforcement with the skills necessary to respond to an active shooter threat. Dillon Elementary staff have participated in a variety of lock down drills, but the drill conducted on the 6th included exposure to the sounds of actual gunfire from a variety of locations. Staff were instructed on how to secure classrooms and how to assist law enforcement as they navigated throughout the building when possible. The training personnel instructed staff in the importance of addressing each situation individually and provided them with options if quick decisions needed to be made in high stress situations. Our District Crisis Response Team and I would like to thank Jason Grimmis, Director of Crisis and Emergency Management at the University of Montana Western, Montana Tech, and Helena College of Technology; Tom Wagenknecht, Beaverhead County Disaster and Emergency Services; Mike Reid, Chancellor at the University of Montana Western; Dillon Police Chief Jeremy Alvarez; Beaverhead County Sheriff Dave Wendt; other participating law enforcement officers; Dillon Fire Chief BJ Klose; our local EMT’s and Barrett Hospital personnel as well as Beaverhead County Health Officials for their collaboration and expertise. A big thank you also goes out to Mrs. Channon Williams, Co-Chair of the District Crisis Response Team; Joel Rogers and Greg Fitzgerald, Administrators in the District; all District Crisis Response Team Members; and all District staff members, who are all first responders in any emergency in the school until other first responders arrive. Sincerely, Randy Shipman Superintendent, Dillon Elementary School District #10
